I checked my rear brakes on my ‘07 Si with 100,000 miles because my wife heard a squeak. It turns out the rears are fine but when I checked the fronts, 3 pads were fine and one was nearly to the backing plate. The problem is that the rust gets in between the stainless shim and the bracket, which pushes the shim up locking the pad. T he stuck inner pad no longer moves so that the outer which does slide does all the work. Gotta love life in the upper midwest.   Interestingly it never pulled under braking.

Yeah I always have to take a flat  file and clean out the caliper behind the shim. Along with a skim coat of brake grease

I agree, that is the plan. Our race cars do without the anti rattle shims which might be plan B.

It’s just a bit of surface rust. Isn’t it amazing how digital cameras make rust look horrible.

Just did all 4 brakes on my OBXT over the weekend. Second time I’ve done it since I’ve had the car, I use anti-seize and high temp brake lube on everything that can use it, and I still had 2 totally seized slide pins that were a major pain to get out. Rust is not fun

I find a steady hand and a cut off wheel works better and quicker to clean out the shim  slots.
